Holy Communion

LUTHERAN

PRACTICE

REGARDING

HOLY COMMUNION
The Lord’s Supper is a joyful celebration but also a serious one.  As St. Paul writes, "Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himseIf." (1 Cor. 17: 27-29)

Therefore, because of St. Paul’s admonition, we ask the following of those who desire Holy Communion:
  • That one is baptized into and believes in the Triune God.

  • That one believes and confesses that Jesus, as true God and True Man, is the only one who can make satisfaction for one’s sins.

  • That the Risen Christ offers along with bread and wine, His true body and blood.

  • That one has had instruction in the Ten Commandments, The Apostle’s Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, Baptism and The Lord’s Supper.
Discipleship classes are offered at convenient times for those who wish to grow in the joy of sewing the Lord.
